In June 2022, gas prices surged to an all-time record high of $5.005 per gallon. While the price of crude oil may dip slightly, we’re unlikely to see any real relief at the pump before 2023. Even when prices start falling, gas may never be as cheap as it once was. Many motorists are avoiding pain at the pump by choosing more fuel-efficient cars like these excellent options from Honda.
2022 Honda Insight
When you’re looking for a fuel-efficient vehicle, it’s hard to beat a hybrid. The 2022 Honda Insight is an exclusively hybrid vehicle and Honda’s most fuel-efficient car. It gets an impressive Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated 55 miles per gallon in the city and 49 miles per gallon on the highways. The ECON drive mode further improves fuel efficiency by adjusting the throttle response, limiting shifting behavior, and reducing the fuel injection and air-conditioner capacity. You should notice better fuel economy when cruising at steady highway speeds or traveling around the city when traffic is flowing.
Its sustainable features are enough to sway most people, but the Honda Insight has more than green credentials on its side. It’s a stylish sedan with advanced safety and entertainment features that delivers a comfortable ride every time. Its price is also comparable to many non-hybrid sedans on the market.
2022 Honda Accord Hybrid
Another quality hybrid from Honda, the 2022 Honda Accord is lighter and has a more aerodynamic design than many midsize sedans. The design pays off, with the EPA expecting you’ll get 48 miles per gallon in the city and 47 miles on the open road on the Hybrid and EX-L trims. The Sport and Touring trims are a little more luxurious but slightly less fuel-efficient. They get 44 miles per gallon in the city and 41 miles per gallon on the highway, which is still better than most vehicles on the road.
All trim levels feature a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a pair of electric motors. Like other modern Honda vehicles, the 2022 Honda Accord hybrid vehicles have an ECON mode to boost fuel economy. The economical hybrid Accord vehicles are excellent options if you’re looking for a comfortable sedan for your family that leaves more money in your household budget.
2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid
The CR-V is one of Honda’s most popular SUVs, but did you know there’s a hybrid option? Honda offers hybrid versions at three trim levels: EX, EX-L, and Touring. No matter which trim level you choose, the two-motor hybrid powertrain has an EPA estimate of 40 miles per gallon driving in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highway. It’s a smooth hybrid system that sounds much quieter than the standard engine, thanks to sound-deadening materials and the stereo’s active noise-canceling feature. These hybrid SUVs also have ECON driving mode to improve their efficiency.
2022 Honda Civic
Hybrids aren’t the only fuel-efficient cars in the Honda stable, though. If you favor a traditional engine but still want lower gas bills, the 2022 Honda Civic is an excellent choice. The EX trim, which has the 180-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine as standard, is the most fuel-efficient choice. It boasts EPA estimates of 33 miles per gallon in the city and 42 miles per gallon on the highway. You could find it even more fuel efficient than a hybrid if you spend a lot of time on open roads.
The Civic gets the edge over the high-end Accord trims with hybrid systems because it’s a slightly smaller sedan. The clever design makes the most of the space available, though. Passenger space measurements are comparable, although rear passengers lose a little legroom in the Civic. The Civic also has an ECON driving mode.
2022 Honda Accord Non-Hybrid
Even the non-hybrid Accords can save you plenty at the pump. They’ve got ECON mode like the hybrids, but that’s not all. With EPA estimates of 30 miles per gallon in the city and 38 miles per gallon on the highway for the base model LX and non-hybrid EX-L, the standard Accord is no gas guzzler. These vehicles have a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 192 horsepower.
Motoring enthusiasts love the stylish Sport and Sport Special trims. However, it comes at a price, with fuel economy falling to 29 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highway with the standard engine. Opt for the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and fuel economy falls again to 22 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway. All these figures are impressive for a sedan of its size. The Accord’s 16.7-cubic-foot cargo hold is the largest in its class, leaving plenty of space for groceries, sporting equipment, and luggage.
2022 Honda HR-V
The HR-V doesn’t have a hybrid option either, but this crossover SUV is one of Honda’s most economical vehicles. It does well in the city, with the EPA estimating it’ll get 28 miles per gallon around town. Hit the highway, and it really shines, getting approximately 34 miles per gallon on the open road. These figures are better than most of its subcompact SUV competitors. Fuel economy is consistent across all trims with the standard two-wheel drive configuration.
Fuel economy slightly drops if you choose the optional all-wheel drive set-up, but with a combined estimate of 29 miles per gallon for the base model LX and 28 miles per gallon for the higher trims, it’s still not incredibly thirsty. All trim levels and configurations have a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. It generates 141 horsepower, enough for most commuters and leisure excursions.
